# Performance metrics

### What are performance metrics? 

EMOTIV’s performance metrics algorithms were built using large amounts of brain data collected during experiments conducted in-house.\
For each performance metric, experiments were designed to elicit a desired cognitive state, such as attention. Where possible, these states were verified by researchers by visually observing each participant, collecting biometric data, and in surveys completed by each participant.
